Weapons mentioned in the works of W. E. Johns[]
This list is a work in progress. Please add to it.
- Bren - the standard light machine gun of the British and Commonwealth armed forces during WW2 and which continued in use until the 1990s. Despite it's ubiquity, it doesn't actually occur very frequently in the Biggles or Johns universe.
- The Coming of Carrington
- Gimlet Lends a Hand (Chapter 1)
- Bofors gun
- Another Job for Biggles. An abandoned one at Aerodrome 137 (Chapter 7).
- Lee-Enfield
- Biggles in Australia. Chapter 9. Hopkins had "an old service .303", which probably means a Lee-Enfield.
- Luger. probably the Luger P08.
- The Case of the Unknown Aircraft
- The Case of the Murdered Apprentice
- Biggles Foreign Legionnaire. Chapter 12. Biggles and Ginger help themselves to some Lugers at the Valley of the Tartars.
- Biggles in Australia. Chapter 4. Biggles picks up a spent bullet. Apparently he can identify it as coming from a Luger.
- Mauser
- Sergeant Bigglesworth C.I.D.. Gontermann used a Mauser automatic pistol. Probably the Mauser HSc.
- Biggles Takes a Holiday. Mausers are used by the gang at Paradise Valley. Biggles steals a some from their armoury. Again, likely thr Mauser HSc.
- Biggles Cuts It Fine. Chapter 12. Marcel uses a Mauser machine gun to shoot at a submarine.
- Biggles Foreign Legionnaire. Chapter 14. Von Stalhein uses a Mauser. Mauser HSc.
- Rigby Express
- Biggles and the Black Raider. Simmond's weapon.
- Spandau - technically this refers to the MG 08, the standard water-cooled heavy machine gun used by the German Army during WW1. A lightened air cooled version was developed for use on aircraft. In the Johns stories, this is more often what "Spandau" refers to.
- The Renegade. Vandor had a supply of Spandau rifles.
- Schneider
- Biggles Gets His Men. Petroffsky has a Schneider rifle which uses black powder.
