Raymond sends Biggles and Ginger in a hurry to the south of France. Intelligence has picked up news that a plot is underway to kidnap Professor Wicks who is on holiday in Nice.
Biggles and Ginger arrive in Nice and check into the same hotel as Wicks. They spot the Professor in the gardens but they do not interuppt as he seems to be talking with someone--a dark bearded man. They have to be content to just keep him under observation.
That night, a man named "Brown" calls on Biggles. He is an M.I.5 agent. He identifies the dark-bearded man as one Peter Swindoff, a notorious spy and agitator! Biggles and Ginger rush to the Professor's room but the door is ajar and he is not there!
They rush to the lobby and learn that Wicks had just left for the airport with the dark-bearded man a few minutes ago. They head for the airport. From a mechanic, they learn that a private plane is warming up in one of the hangars. Inside, Biggles and Ginger see Swindoff inviting the Professor into the plane. Biggles calls to the Professor not to get on board. Swindoff becomes agitated and orders the Professor to do as he says--but by this time, Biggles has closed in and he knocks Swindoff out. The Professor is puzzled but Biggles soon puts him wise. Apparently he had thought that Swindoff was taking him on a sight-seeing trip to Italy.
