Tejgaon was built by the British as a military airfield during World War 2 in 1943. After the war it was handed over to become a civil airport and was the first civil airport in Dhaka. In 1981 civilian flights were transfered toShahjalal International Airport and Tejgaon was handed over to the Bangladesh Air Force and became known as Base Bashar.

In Biggles in the Gobi, Tejgaon was his jumpoff point for the rescue mission to Nan-Hu. He also returned to Tejgaon at the end of the mission.

There is very little information about Tejgaon today, even less for Biggles's time. It does not even have published approach plates. This airview comes from the X-plane 11 flight simulator with scenery enhanced by community volunteers. The camera angle is towards runway 35. The single runway hemmed in by urban development would have been familiar to Biggles. To the right of runway are the buildings of the Bangladesh Air Force, which are probably after Biggles's time. The old civilian terminal cannot be seen. Perhaps it has been demolished. To the left of the runway and halfway along the length is the Bangladesh Air Force museum which is open to the public.
