In Biggles and the Plane That Disappeared, Marsdale Flying School was a flying club near Oxford. The smuggler, "Snifty" Chandler worked there as a flying instructor for a while after being thrown out of the R.A.F. A fellow instructor and former squadron mate, Gordon saw him flying while drunk at the club and reported him, resulting in Chandler being dismissed from Marsdale. Ginger called at the club with a description of the suspect who had stolen a Piper Cub from Kingsmead Flying Club. There, in the bar, Gordon was able to identify the suspect as matching the description of Chandler, thus giving the Air Police their first lead in what had been until then a fairly tedious and unfruitful line of inquiry.
