A commuter town in Surrey some 20 miles south of London. From 1877, Caterham Barracks was the depot of the foot-guards until 1995 when the site was closed and redeveloped for housing. In Biggles Follows On, von Stalhein operated in Caterham when he frequented the (fictional) Stand Easy Cafe mingling with the British soldiers from the nearby Guards barracks who frequented that pub. He was attempting to spot potential recruits who would be deployed to do propaganda work behind the Iron Curtain.
