In Operation Starlight, "Carlo the Cat" is a notorious cracksman well-known to Scotland Yard.
In the course of the story, Carlo had pulled off a jewelry theft at Grosvenor Square and had paid five hundred pounds to Luftmann's gang to transport him and his loot to France. Unfortunately for him, his pilot was Algy, acting undercover as a disgraced R.A.F. pilot named Mason. Algy picked him up as scheduled from Luftmann's safehouse in the Ashdown forest and took off in a De Havilland Puss Moth with Carlo bound for Beauvais in France. On the way, Algy faked engine trouble and put down on a golf course northeast of Brighton where the aircraft was met by Biggles, Ginger, Bertie and Inspector Gaskin. Carlo was arrested by Inspector Gaskin.
